BirdLife South Africa will be taking intrepid birders and naturalists on three exciting adventures to St Helena Island in early 2026.
This remarkable island boasts a globally significant natural environment – both on land and at sea – with strikingly contrasting landscapes and extraordinary biodiversity.
The Wirebird, St Helena’s last remaining endemic land bird, is found nowhere else on Earth. Tick that off your list! The island is also home to nine breeding seabird species, including the Red-billed Tropicbird, White (Fairy) Tern and the striking Masked Booby – along with a rich diversity of endemic plants, invertebrates and marine life.



Journey to one of the most remote and storied islands in the world – a true off-the-beaten-track, bucket-list destination.
And yes, Jonathan the tortoise – the oldest known living land animal – is waiting to meet you!
